Australian Honey Products Founder and Head Beekeeper, Lindsay Bourke, has been awarded the Rueben Charles Memorial trophy for the World’s Best Leatherwood Honey at the 78th annual Tasmanian Beekeepers Association Conference held in Hobart on Saturday May 27.

This prestigious, highly-coveted award is judged by an experienced honey Sommelier who critiques each of the honey entrants on density, colour, aroma, clarity, and taste. The competition was fierce, with many Tasmanian honey producers taking part, but it was the Australian Honey Products award-winning Leatherwood honey that stole the show.

Lindsay, renowned Tasmanian Beekeeper, owner of Australian Honey Products, and president of the Tasmanian Bee Keeper Association, has a passion for all things bees and honey, but his love of the native Tasmanian Leatherwood honey exceeds all others.

“Leatherwood is the world’s finest honey and it’s produced right here in Tasmania from the Leatherwood flower which is native to our state. It’s wonderful to produce such a beautiful honey and to have it be so successful and appreciated is fantastic,” says Lindsay.

“We are thrilled to have won the best Leatherwood Honey. It’s a prestigious award that we feel privileged to have won.”

“Not only does it show that we have the best honey in the world, it empowers us to keep making the honey for people to enjoy for years to come.”

The Tasmanian Beekeepers Association is the peak body representing the beekeeping industry in Tasmania. Each year at the annual conference, the Rueben Charles Memorial Trophy is given to the World’s Best Leatherwood Honey. Australian Honey products last won this award in 2017.
